Grand Total

Definition
The grand total is the final amount a customer pays, equal to the subtotal plus tax and tip minus any discounts.

The grand total is the most prominent figure on a receipt, usually shown in bold beneath the tax and tip lines. It is reached by taking the subtotal, adding sales tax or VAT, adding any tip or service charge, and subtracting discounts. The payment method line should match the grand total. Because every other figure feeds into it, an incorrect grand total is a sign that one of the component lines β€” subtotal, tax, or tip β€” has been miscalculated.
