How weighed produce is priced
Weighed produce on a grocery receipt is priced per unit of weight, so it appears as a weight multiplied by a price per pound or kilogram — for example 1.8 lb of apples at $2.49 a pound, giving a $4.48 line. This is the one place a supermarket line does not read as a simple quantity of items.
