Rolex Receipt

For a mechanical watch, the paperwork is part of the object. A complete set of documents changes what the watch is worth, and service records stretching back years are what separate a well-kept piece from an unknown one. Receipt Caker builds documents for that chain.

How do I make a watch provenance or service record?
Receipt Caker builds a watch document in your browser. Add case and movement numbers as custom rows, note the box and papers status, list the service performed, then export a PNG or PDF.
What does box and papers mean?
That the watch still has its original packaging and its original documentation. A full set commands a noticeably higher price on the secondhand market than the same watch sold bare, because the paperwork supports the history.

Ce que vous pouvez faire

  • Custom rows for case number, movement number and model reference
  • A labeled field for box and papers status on a secondhand sale
  • Service history recorded as itemized work rather than a single charge
  • Separate lines for parts, labor, pressure testing and refinishing
  • Wide paper with a serif or typewriter face, suiting a watchmaker's document
  • PDF export for filing alongside a service booklet or an insurance schedule

The Paperwork Is Part of the Watch

In most categories the receipt is administrative overhead. In mechanical watches it is closer to a component. The same reference, in the same condition, sells for meaningfully more with its original documentation than without, and the gap is large enough that the paperwork is treated as an asset in its own right.

That changes how the document should be built. It is going to be photographed, scrutinized and passed on to the next owner, so it needs to be wide, legible and specific rather than a compressed till slip that happens to record an expensive purchase.

Case Numbers, Movement Numbers and References

Three identifiers do different jobs. The reference describes the model, so thousands of watches share one. The case number identifies the individual watch. The movement number identifies the mechanism inside it, which matters because a movement can be replaced during a service and the pairing is part of the history.

Keep them in separate labeled rows. Anyone assessing a watch checks these against the piece in front of them, and a document that merges them into a sentence forces the reader to interpret rather than verify.

Service History Is a Running Record

A mechanical movement needs periodic overhaul, and each visit generates its own document. Together they form a history: when the movement was last serviced, what was replaced, whether the case was refinished, whether pressure resistance was retested afterward.

Itemize the work rather than issuing a single charge. A service record showing a movement overhaul, a gasket replacement and a pressure test tells a future owner something specific. One showing only a total tells them a sum of money was spent, which is not the same information at all.

Secondhand Sales, Insurance and Legitimate Use

Two situations bring people here. One is selling privately, where a buyer wants documentation of what the watch is and how it has been kept. The other is insurance, where a scheduled item needs a record tying a serial to a value.

Receipt Caker generates generic documents. It does not reproduce any manufacturer's layout, logo, typography or certificate design, and the sample here is an invented watchmaker. Recording a service you performed or a private sale you made is legitimate. Fabricating a manufacturer's warranty card, or documentation implying a house issued papers it never issued, is forgery. Our terms prohibit it and so does the law.

Questions fréquentes

What is the difference between a case number and a movement number?
The case number identifies the individual watch. The movement number identifies the mechanism inside it, which can change if a movement is swapped during a service.
Can I create a warranty card with this?
No. Reproducing a manufacturer's warranty card or certificate is forgery. The builder makes generic sale and service documents from an independent watchmaker, which is a different thing entirely.
How should I record a service?
Itemize the work. Separate lines for overhaul, parts, refinishing and pressure testing tell a future owner what was actually done, which a single total cannot.
Should the document mention box and papers?
On a secondhand sale, yes, as a labeled row. The completeness of the set materially affects the price, so recording it protects both parties.
Is the builder free to use?
PNG export is free and unlimited without an account. Pro removes the watermark and adds PDF export and logo uploads.
