Carbon Copy Receipt
Receipt Caker is a free browser-based carbon copy receipt maker that recreates the classic two-part slip, giving you a matching merchant copy and customer copy from one entry.
- What is a carbon copy receipt?
- Receipt Caker helps you build a carbon copy receipt, the two-part slip where the merchant keeps one copy and the customer takes the other. Traditionally the carbon layer transfers the writing to a second sheet so both copies match exactly. Here you type the details once, and the identical copies are generated for you with the same items, tax, and total. The preview updates live, and you download a watermarked PNG for free.
- Why keep a merchant copy and a customer copy?
- Two matching copies mean both sides of a sale have the same record. The customer copy is proof of purchase for returns, warranties, or expense reports, while the merchant copy supports the seller's bookkeeping and reconciliation. Because they are identical, there is no dispute about what was bought, the amounts, or the total. Receipt Caker produces both from a single entry so nothing is retyped or mismatched.

How a Carbon Copy Receipt Works
The classic carbon copy receipt uses two stacked sheets with a carbon layer between them. Writing on the top sheet presses through and reproduces the same marks on the sheet below, so both copies are identical without writing twice.
One copy stays with the merchant and the other goes to the customer. This is why receipt books and duplicate pads were built this way: both parties walk away with the same record of the sale.
Receipt Caker recreates that outcome digitally. You enter the sale once, and the tool generates a merchant copy and a customer copy that match line for line, without carbon paper or duplicate typing.
What Belongs on Each Copy
Both copies carry the same core information: the seller name and date, each item with its quantity and price, and the subtotal, tax, and total. Consistency between the two is the whole point.
A clear label marking one as the merchant copy and the other as the customer copy prevents mix-ups. A receipt or reference number on both makes it easy to match them later during reconciliation.
Receipt Caker fills every field on both copies from your single entry, so the merchant and customer records never drift apart or contain conflicting numbers.
When You Need Two Copies
Cash and person-to-person sales are the classic case. The customer needs proof of purchase, and the seller needs a record for the books, so a two-part slip serves both at once.
Service businesses and market sellers use carbon copy receipts to hand a customer their copy on the spot while keeping an identical stub for daily totals and bookkeeping.
The format also helps when you have lost one half of an old two-part slip and need to reproduce a matching copy for your records. Use a generic seller name such as Riverside Repairs in your example.
Exporting Both Copies
The free export produces watermarked PNG images of your receipt, easy to share, print, or file. Each copy carries a small Receipt Caker watermark and reproduces exactly what the preview shows.
Pro removes the watermark and adds PDF export plus logo upload, so both the merchant and customer copies look clean and print-ready with your own branding at the top.
For casual sales, the free PNG copies are enough. If you issue receipts regularly and want a professional, consistent look on every merchant and customer copy, the Pro export is worth it.
